Isidro Fabela y Alfaro
Born in Atlacomulco, Estado de México, june 29, 1882. He studied law at the Escuela Nacional de Jurisprudencia (National Schoool of Jurisprudence), now Facultad de Derecho (Faculty of Law) of Escuela Nacional de México, now UNAM (National Autonomous University of México), obtaining its degree on law on 1908.
He joined Francisco I. Madero on its struggle to overthrow Porfirio Diaz. Once the revolution took the power, he was elected Deputy. During the "Decena Trágica", when Victoriano Huerta arrested and executed Madero, Pino Suarez and prosecuted its followers, Fabela still concurred to the Congress. He later joined Venustiano Carranza and was named Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
During this period he was the representative of the revolutionary movement led by Carranza and one of its closest councelors. From 1915 to 1920 he was appointed ambassador at France, England, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Germany.
He was named Representative to the Society of Nations by President Cárdenas, where he condemned the axis nations and critized the lack of action of the western states. There he partcipated on the debates of the conflicts at Etipia, Spain, Manchuria, Austria and Checoslovaquia.
Later, he was elected judge at the International Court of Justice from 1946 to 1952 participating in many important cases as Corfú (UK vs Albania), Haya de la Torre (Colombia vs Peru), Asylum (Colombia vs Peru), Fisheries (UK vs Norway) and Advisory Opinios, for example Reparation for Injuries and reservations to the Genocide Convention.
Defender of International Law at political and juridical forums, guide of the foreign policy of Mexico, author of "Hisotria Diplomática de México", he is of vital importance in the history of Mexico's Foreign Affairs.
